ITA Airways is broadening its reach within the UK by initiating a direct flight connecting Rome–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and London City Airport (LCY), starting from March 31, 2024. This new route will be operated by the Airbus A220-100, offering 12 flights per week.

London City Airport is celebrated for its central location, timely operations, and efficient service, promising an exceptional journey for travelers. This addition allows passengers to easily access the heart of both London and Rome. Furthermore, this service facilitates convenient transfers at Rome Fiumicino for ITA Airways’ wider network, covering domestic, Mediterranean, and South American destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Buenos Aires.

Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer ITA Airways and CEO Volare, said: “We are proud to launch
this new direct service between Rome Fiumicino and London City, which is an airport of reference for business traffic but also very interesting for leisure flows. The UK is confirmed as an increasingly strategic market for ITA Airways, offering travelers 100 weekly flights between the UK and Italy in the current summer season.”

This service complements ITA Airways’ recent enhancement of its Milan Linate to London City route, which will see an additional daily flight in April 2024, totaling 31 weekly flights at summer’s peak. Another boost to its UK operations includes a new Rome Fiumicino to Gatwick Airport route starting in June, with seven flights a week, aligning the weekly UK-Italy flights to 100.

The Airbus A220-100, the fleet’s smallest aircraft, is praised for its efficiency and comfort on short-haul routes. It boasts passenger-friendly features like wider seats, modern lighting, large windows, and spacious overhead bins. The 125-seat cabin, designed by Walter De Silva, is split into Business and Economy classes and equipped with Safran leather recliners in soothing blue and beige tones, USB power outlets, and Wi-Fi connectivity for various online activities.

Additionally, the A220-100 aligns with ITA Airways’ sustainability goals by significantly reducing fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by 25% compared to previous short-haul models, underscoring the airline’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
