Italy has finally launched its Digital Nomad Visa programme for non-EU residents.

This programme will allow remote workers the opportunity to live, work, and explore this beautiful European nation.

Self-employed remote workers as well as those employed by a company outside of Italy can apply for this programme. It is valid for up to a year and can be renewed.

This programme aims to attract tourists to Italy and boost their economy by offering them work-life balance and an opportunity to live and work in this beautiful country.

Effective as of April 4, Italy has joined the list of growing European countries offering similar digital nomad visas.

Some of these countries include Cyprus, Czechia, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Malta, Romania, the Netherlands, and Norway.

How Can Non-EU Residents Apply For This Visa?

So, the big question arises – who qualifies for this Digital Nomad Visa? As per the Italian authorities, ‘highly skilled’ non-EU passport holders can apply for this visa.

The applicants need to earn at least €28,000 (roughly ₹24,94,808) per year to qualify for this programme.

Furthermore, they should also have either a college degree or professional license and demonstrate six months of relevant work experience.

The applicants will have to show proof of accommodation as well as have health insurance for the duration of their stay.

To apply for this visa, you will have to apply and book an appointment at the Italian consulate in your country.

There you’ll need documents like a passport, proof of employment, proof of income, proof of accommodation, health insurance, and a criminal record certificate to apply for this visa.

For self-employed personnels, they will have to apply for an Italian VAT number. Once successful, the visa holders will have eight days after arrival to get a residence permit.

This is some exciting news for remote workers across the world! Let us know in the comments if you are eligible for this visa and if you would like to explore Italy and stay there for some time with this visa!
