NAV CANADA has officially joined the iTEC Alliance, marking a significant milestone in a collaborative effort among leading air navigation service providers worldwide. This partnership, announced at the Airspace World event in Geneva, extends iTEC’s reach beyond Europe for the first time, enhancing its mission to develop more efficient and eco-friendly air traffic management systems.

At the signing ceremony, attended by key figures in the air traffic management ecosystem, including Mark Cooper representing NAV CANADA and prominent members of the iTEC Alliance, the agreement solidified a commitment to advancing global air traffic management.

The addition of NAV CANADA, responsible for managing the world’s second-largest airspace, significantly expands the Alliance’s coverage to over 26 million square kilometers and supports more than 12 million flights annually across 27 control centers. This expansion enables aircraft to traverse vast distances with the iTEC SkyNex system seamlessly managing their journeys.

The introduction of iTEC SkyNex will bring Trajectory-Based Operations (TBO) to Canada, offering a strategic approach to air traffic management and enhancing flight oversight from departure to arrival. This cutting-edge technology improves flight planning, resource optimization, and overall efficiency, resulting in reduced delays, CO2 emissions, and operational costs.

Furthermore, NAV CANADA’s involvement will accelerate the evolution of iTEC SkyNex, facilitating the integration of new technologies and sophisticated functions while sharing expertise and costs. This collaboration strengthens cooperation between Europe and North America and sets the stage for enhanced global air traffic management.

“We are delighted to be the first non-European ANSP to join the iTEC Alliance. Founded on the spirit of collaboration, NAV CANADA is proud to now be part of this partnership. A better future is ahead of us with iTEC SkyNex; we are now in a position to achieve goals that were previously unimaginable and build towards more sustainable skies,” said Raymond G. Bohn, President and CEO, NAV CANADA.

Dirk Mahns, DFS COO and Chairman of iTEC Board, stated that “NAV CANADA’s entry into the alliance constitutes a significant milestone and highlights the fact that we have a highly advanced technology and a spirit of collaboration that are delivering tangible results and encouraging interoperability between air navigation service providers, a key aspect to transforming aviation and managing flights more intelligently and efficiently.”
