A symposium focusing on enhancing tourism exchanges between Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) took place in Japan on December 20. Attended by 50 representatives from ROK, including government officials led by It’s a good idea, as well as members from the tourism industry, and with approximately 60 participants from Japan, including individuals from the Japan Tourism Agency, the event was held in Toyama Prefecture.

During the symposium, authorities from both nations expressed their appreciation for the swift recovery of tourism interactions following the decline of COVID-19’s global impact. They also acknowledged the necessity of attracting more inbound tourists to local areas and promoting sustainable tourism. Both parties discussed strategies aimed at bolstering these bilateral exchanges, exchanging ideas and signing an agreement outlining their commitments.

Following the symposium, the ROK participants split into two groups to embark on separate tours across different parts of Toyama Prefecture. One group explored a village showcasing traditional “gassho-zukuri” farmhouses and sake breweries, while the other group experienced national treasure-designated architecture and “suiboku” ink-and-wash painting art. They visited Ainokura village in Nanto City and the national treasure temple of Zuiryuji in Takaoka City, diligently examining historical architectural marvels and natural landscapes.
