Jetstar Asia has declared the initiation of direct flights connecting Broome in Western Australia with Singapore, heralding a significant step for the tourism sector in the region. The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from local tourism organizations, with the airline committing to maintaining affordable ticket prices. This seasonal service is slated to commence on June 25, providing two weekly return flights until October 26.The decision to introduce flights from Broome to Singapore via Silk Air was first taken in 2018, during a period marked by a decline in international tourism expenditure in the state. Following this, there was a push from the Broome International Airport to secure federal government support for the resumption of these flights, with the main hurdle being the establishment of permanent border services at the airport.The new flights will connect Broome with Changi International Airport, thus adding Broome to the list of eight Australian cities linked directly to this key southeast Asian hub. To celebrate the launch, Jetstar has announced the availability of special introductory fares starting at $145, with plans to resume the service in April of the following year.Western Australia’s Tourism Minister, Rita Saffioti, highlighted the potential of this new flight route to significantly enhance the state’s aviation connections with Asia. She emphasized the boost this could give to international visitor numbers in Australia’s northwest and the subsequent benefits for local businesses.Craig Shaw, the CEO of Broome International Airport, expressed his enthusiasm for the direct flights, noting their role in bringing Broome closer to the global stage and affirming the region’s appeal as a tourist destination.
