JFK International Airport

The new, iconic experience is set to dazzle patrons with a carefully selected array of high-end brands, upscale clothing, distinctive global flavors of New York, and immersive experiences. Expectations are high for the lineup to feature a variety of brands making their airport debut, alongside a dedication to showcasing unique items, and food and drinks supplied by local artisans, suppliers, and farmers.

The innovative terminal design is meant to evoke the diverse array of emotions associated with New York City — from the luxurious buzz and energy reminiscent of the Met Gala, to the quaint allure found in the city’s local neighborhoods, and the serene beauty of its parks. Travelers will enjoy a slice of Queens in terms of both food and decor, with elements representing all five boroughs infused throughout the terminal.

Upon completion, New Terminal One will stand as JFK largest terminal, boasting 23 gates and over 300,000 square feet dedicated to retail, dining, and lounges, within a sprawling expanse of 2.4 million square feet.

“From the outset of our $19 billion transformation of JFK, our goal has been to build best-in-class facilities that offer a passenger experience on par with or better than what travelers find at the world’s great airports,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “At the heart of that effort is the ambitious commercial program envisioned for the New Terminal One, which will bring together global brands and iconic local businesses that will combine with our public art, branding and architecture to create a sense of place unique to New York.”

“Visitors from around the world will be energized from the moment they enter the New Terminal One at JFK thanks to the locally inspired shops and restaurants that will reflect the diverse tastes and styles from across our region,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “Just as we have done at Newark’s Terminal A, we are drawing on the talents of local businesses, artisans and restauranteurs to create memorable and award-winning new airports.”

“We are excited to partner with The New Terminal One and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to deliver a world-class commercial program for the world’s best international terminal,” said Dany Nasr, CEO of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports. “The most sought-after brands see The New Terminal One as an unparalleled opportunity to capitalize on a premier audience, create global exposure, and express their brands within a showstopping environment. Together, we will set the benchmark for future airport developments in North America and beyond.”

“The launch of the commercial program for the New Terminal One is an important milestone as we advance towards our scheduled opening in 2026,” said Dr. Gerrard P. Bushell, president and CEO of The New Terminal One. “We are proud to partner with URW Airports to launch a world-class retail experience featuring global brands and local New York businesses, reflecting the dazzling array of offerings that our great city is known for. Our food and beverage selection will showcase a rich diversity of cuisines and flavors inspired by the tapestry of cultures that make up New York City, while driving real economic opportunities in our community for generations to come.”

Engaging the Community in New Business Opportunities at JFK

URW is embarking on an initiative to highlight concessions business opportunities within its commercial program, specifically targeting local, women-owned, and minority-owned businesses. These opportunities range from product placements to retail and dining ventures. To kickstart this initiative, URW is inviting the community to participate in the first series of virtual information sessions:

Seeking Global Partners for Duty-Free Ventures

Marking a significant milestone, URW Airports is issuing its first prime operator Request for Proposals (RFP) in search of a pioneering global duty-free partner. This partnership aims to integrate the unique offerings of local makers and vendors into the airport’s retail landscape. The RFP encompasses a comprehensive package for operating five outlets in the initial phase, with provisions for additional spaces in future expansions. Key requirements include a minimum of 30% ACDBE participation and at least 5% local business enterprise (LBE) product representation in the shop floor’s product assortment.

URW Airports is dedicated to facilitating access, providing technical support, and ensuring that The New Terminal One mirrors the diverse cultures of its communities. Through creating a variety of opportunities for ACDBEs and LBEs, URW aims to align with customer needs and commercial goals while enhancing the capabilities of local businesses.

Transforming JFK into a Premier Global Gateway

The JFK Vision Plan, unveiled in January 2017, sets a blueprint for transforming John F. Kennedy International Airport into a premier international gateway. This plan guides the Port Authority and its partners in the extensive redevelopment and expansion of facilities and infrastructure. Key projects include:

Combined, these privately financed terminal ventures along with the Port Authority’s investments in roadways, parking, and infrastructure total a $19 billion overhaul of JFK International Airport. This represents a monumental public-private partnership effort, leveraging a 4:1 ratio of private investment to the Port Authority’s $3.9 billion capital investment, highlighting the extensive private commitment exceeding $15 billion across the redevelopment program.
