In a bid to connect the youth with the rich cultural heritage of Purmandal, also known as chota Kashi on the Devika river bank, the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the District Administration Samba and the Jammu Heritage Walk, organised the Purmandal Utterbeni Heritage Walk on Sunday.

More than 200 passionate residents, influential citizens, and PRI members attended the ceremony.
The District Development Council Chairman Keshav Dutt Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma, DDC member Avtar Singh, and Joint Director Tourism Sunaina Sharma launched the Heritage Walk in the presence of local Sarpanchs and prominent persons.

The attendees visited numerous old temples in the region, including the Umapati temple, Radha Krishna Temple (Gadhadhar ji Temple), Adhmukteshwar, and Ranbhishwersingh Temple, all of which have historical and cultural significance. These temples are founded on the Sanatana Dharma of Shaivism and Vaishnavism.

During the trip, Ananya Salhotra, the originator of the Jammu Heritage trip, told the participants about fresco paintings, temple architecture, traditional pathways, the origin of the Gupta Ganga Devika River, and ancient texts. In addition, the participants dined on traditional Dogra food at Kabir Mandir, which was organised by the tourist department.

According to DDC Chairman Keshav Dutt Sharma, connecting the youth with our legacy is critical to instilling pride in them for our rich cultural heritage.

Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma, stressed the significance of conserving our cultural history and handing it down to future generations at the Purmandal Utterbeni history Walk. He exhorted the kids to be proud of their ancestry and to take an active interest in their history and traditions. He thanked the Department of Tourism, the Heritage Walk Society, and all of the participants for helping to make the event a huge success. He also emphasised the necessity of incorporating the local population in heritage, adding that interventions like these have the ability to not only raise awareness but also create jobs.

Sunaina Sharma, Joint Director Tourism Jammu, stated that the tourism department is dedicated to promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance under the direction of Secretary Tourism, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, and Director Tourism Jammu, Vivekanand Rai, who have also been actively working to promote tourism in the region and create opportunities for locals to showcase their culture and heritage to the world.

Ananya Sharma, a Jammu University student, expressed her gratitude for the educational and entertaining temple visit, saying that she had learnt a lot about the region’s cultural and religious significance.

Overall, the participants were overjoyed to be a part of the historical walk and thanked the organisers, particularly the Tourism Department of J&K and the District Administration of Samba.
