J&K Tourism Secretary reviews work progress in religious tourist destinations in Samba district

Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary to the J&K Government, Tourism Department, visited Purmandal-Utterbehni historical sites today to examine progress on development activities being carried out in these holy tourism locations.


He was joined by Anuradha Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Samba; Ved Parkash, Chief Executive Officer, Mansar Surinsar Development Authority; Sunaina Sharma, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Vijaypur; Vinay Kumar, Engineers, and other officers and villagers.


During his visit, the Secretary reviewed the status of different initiatives being carried out for the development of the Purmandal-Utterbehani holy tourist circuit under the Development of Purmandal Circuit, Samba district.


The Secretary went over the development projects at Purmandal in great detail, including the building of paved pathways to the complex, the construction of view points, the installation of focus lights and poles with high mast lights and solar lights.


The Secretary requested active engagement and involvement of the general public, particularly youth, in the development of Purmandal-Utterbehani as a key religious and pilgrimage tourist destination in Jammu.


“Purmandal and Utterbehani have historic significance in the region with vast potential and religious importance to attract tourists. It will be earnest effort of the government to boost development tempo in these areas with a long term sustainable perspective to tap the areas massive potential,” the Secretary underlined.


When talking with members of civil society and local leaders, the Secretary underlined the importance of all stakeholders actively participating in the development process and cooperating with government agencies in order to expand and cater to tourist footfall.


While providing details on recent developments, the Deputy Commissioner informed the Secretary that a coordination committee comprised of members from local administration, religious organisations, dharmarth trusts, the tourism department, and other prominent citizens has been formed to oversee project implementation and address issues so that development work can proceed smoothly.


Meanwhile, the Secretary met with people, including elected officials and religious organisations from Purmandal-Utterbehani, and listened to their concerns and requests, including fund availability and other difficulties.


He told them that all real demands and concerns raised by them will be addressed as soon as possible.
Avtar Singh, a member of the District Development Council, and the Sarpanches of Purmandal and Utterbehni were also present.
