Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines have expressed their appreciation for the decision by Hon Matt Doocey, New Zealand’s Associate Minister of Transport, to extend their joint venture alliance for an additional five years, up to March 2029.

This extension will enable both airlines to continue delivering enhanced value, more choices, and access to an extensive global network to their customers in the years ahead.

Throughout their decade-long collaboration, Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines have successfully increased the seating capacity on flights between New Zealand and Singapore by nearly 50%. This expansion includes the introduction of up to three daily flights between Auckland and Singapore, along with a daily flight between Christchurch and Singapore.

Mike Williams, the Chief Transformation and Alliances Officer at Air New Zealand, emphasized the crucial role of this partnership in connecting New Zealand with the rest of the world.

“Since the alliance was launched at the beginning of 2015, the two flag carriers have together carried over 4.6 million passengers between New Zealand, Singapore and beyond,” said Mr Williams. “The partnership gives New Zealanders access to the world on Singapore Airlines’ vast network beyond the Singapore gateway into destinations in Europe, India and Southeast Asia. With the partnership extended for a further five years, together with Singapore Airlines, we can continue to stimulate trade and tourism, and provide customers with greater choice and connectivity.”

Upon the extension and pending regulatory consent, the collaborators in the joint venture will manage four daily seasonal flights from Auckland to Singapore from October 27, 2024, to March 29, 2025. This expansion will offer passengers enhanced connectivity and options throughout the busiest travel season.

The introduction of the fourth daily seasonal route between Auckland and Singapore means the airlines will together provide 38 weekly round-trip flights between New Zealand and Singapore at the height of the travel season. This equates to over 893,000 seats available annually.
