Jonathan Daniels appointed CEO and Port Director at Port Everglades

Jonathan Daniels has been appointed as the new CEO and Port Director at Port Everglades. The announcement was recently made by Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry. Broward’s diverse seaport is a global gateway for cargo, cruise and petroleum. As informed by the port itself, it is currently undergoing a $1.6 billion port expansion effort.

Daniels comes with years of vast experience in the cruise and maritime industry. Before joining Port Everglades he was serving as the Executive Director at the Port of Gulfport, Mississippi where he has been working since 2013. As a part of his job he led a $570 million restoration and expansion project in Gulfport.

He also worked as the Executive Director of the Port of Oswego in New York, Managing Director of the Port of Greater Baton Rouge and Port Director for the Eastport Port Authority in Maine from 2007-2013. He was also associated with Eastern Maine Development Corporation, where he worked as a Chief Executive Officer. This highlights his extensive experience in economic development as he was bestowed with the responsibility of overseeing the day-to-day operations and development efforts of the six-county economic development district.

He was also the Director of the City of Bangor, Maine Office of Economic and Business Development. He even served as Senior Trade Advisor and Director, Maine International Trade Center and looked after the State of Maine’s international trade development efforts for eastern and northern Maine. In addition, he is also an active member of the maritime community and the community as a whole and serves on many boards and committees such as the American Association of Port Authorities and the American Heart Association.

Daniels earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and is a graduate of The Citadel. He also attained his degree as a Master of Science Candidate in Maritime Management from the Maine Maritime Academy. He has even completed professional education in the International Program for Port Planning and Management by studying in the University of New Orleans, the U.S. Army War College and the Thomas College in New England.

Daniels shared in a recent press statement that he is honored to be selected in his new job role. He mentioned that he is looking forward to work with the Board of County Commissioners, the County Administrator, the hard-working and dedicated employees of Port Everglades and its diverse business clientele. Daniels’ extensive expertise and vast experience will definitely contribute towards a better future for Port Everglades.
