The “UrdunJannah” programme, launched to encourage domestic tourism for Jordanians and residents, has attracted over 45,000 participants since the launch of its third season in June, according to a Tourism Ministry statement issued Sunday.
To date, the programme has provided 1,646 tourist buses to transport tourists to Jordan’s attractions, accompanied by 1,646 guides, the statement added.
The ministry said the committee entrusted to run the programme has worked to link the ancient city of Petra, which was “badly” hit by disruption of foreign tourism due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with majority of overnight trip programs in the Kingdom’s southern regions.
This step achieved the “desired” goal and contributed to doubling the visitor number flocking the Petra city in “large” proportions recently, said the statement.
The programme provides “one-day” tours to several tourist destinations in the north, central and part of the south, and overnight trips in the areas “hardest-hit” by the Covid-19 pandemic, such as the southern Petra and Wadi Rum attractions, the statement noted.
The app jannah.jo provides services of inquiry, booking and online payment, downloaded on Android and iOS, according to the statement, which added that the services are also still available at tourism offices and directorates countrywide.
