Boutique US airline JSX has announced a significant expansion at Santa Monica Airport (SMO), starting January 2026. The regional airline, known for its premium services, is enhancing its offerings by adding a daily flight to Scottsdale Airport (SCF) in Arizona, and increasing its frequency to Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) from one to three times a day. This move is expected to bolster tourism and regional travel, connecting more travellers to popular US destinations.

JSX’s expansion comes in response to rising demand for seamless and efficient travel options. By increasing flight frequencies and adding new routes, the airline aims to provide passengers with faster, more convenient access to the destinations they cherish. This expansion also signals JSX’s confidence in regional tourism and its commitment to serving leisure and business travellers alike.

A New Aircraft for Regional Routes

The new services are made possible by the airline’s acquisition of the ATR 42-600 turboprop aircraft. Unlike the larger jets typically used for regional flights, the ATR turboprops offer greater operational flexibility, requiring only half the runway space and burning significantly less fuel. This is in line with JSX’s strategy to serve smaller airports closer to major city hubs, offering greater convenience to passengers, particularly those travelling for tourism or business.

Starting on December 19, 2025, JSX began service with these turboprops, operating a once-daily flight between Santa Monica and Las Vegas. These turboprops, which accommodate just 30 passengers, enable JSX to reach smaller, regional airports that were previously underserved. The expansion of its ATR fleet is a direct response to the growing demand for quicker, more comfortable connections to regional destinations that are key to US tourism.

Connecting More US Tourists to Scottsdale and Las Vegas

Scottsdale and Las Vegas are two highly popular destinations for tourists in the US, known for their vibrant tourism scenes. Scottsdale, located near Phoenix, attracts visitors with its world-class resorts, golf courses, and luxury shopping, while Las Vegas is globally recognized for its entertainment, casinos, and convention centres. By offering additional flight options to these destinations, JSX is helping to drive tourism, especially in the winter months, when both cities see a surge in visitors.

The new flights will provide easier access to both cities for US residents and international tourists looking to explore the southwest. By serving smaller airports like Scottsdale Airport, JSX is also tapping into a niche market of travellers who prefer smaller airports and more convenient departure and arrival locations, especially those looking to avoid the congestion of larger commercial airports.

Tourism Impact and Future Expansion Plans

JSX’s growth aligns with a broader trend in regional tourism. Smaller airports and regional flights are becoming increasingly popular among tourists, who seek less hassle and greater efficiency. For instance, connecting to airports closer to the heart of tourist destinations can significantly enhance the overall travel experience, contributing to positive reviews and repeat visits.

The airline’s CEO, Alex Wilcox, indicated that JSX’s commitment to expanding its turboprop services is driven by the potential to serve more airports and reach more tourist hubs. The airline is also exploring future routes to Telluride, Colorado, and Truckee Tahoe, California, adding to its already expanding network.

These new routes are expected to support the growing tourism demand, especially in destinations that are popular during the colder months. Increased tourism leads to more revenue for local businesses, hotels, and attractions, creating a ripple effect throughout the economy. JSX’s strategy could make it a major player in regional tourism as it continues to meet the needs of leisure travellers, business professionals, and regional tourists.

Flight Fares and Service Details

JSX’s new services between Santa Monica and Las Vegas are priced starting at 215 dollars for one-way flights, while fares to Scottsdale will start at 279 dollars. These competitive prices, combined with the airline’s seamless booking and boarding experience, make it an appealing option for tourists seeking a faster and more comfortable way to reach their favourite destinations.

For frequent travellers, JSX offers the Club JSX loyalty programme, which allows members to earn points towards future flights. Additionally, passengers can accumulate rewards with JetBlue’s TrueBlue points or United MileagePlus points, making the service even more attractive for those who travel regularly.

A Win for Regional Tourism

JSX’s expansion of flights to Las Vegas and Scottsdale not only offers more options for travellers but also contributes significantly to regional tourism growth. By providing faster, more convenient access to these popular tourist destinations, JSX is helping boost both leisure and business travel in the US This increase in flight frequencies, and the addition of new routes is a promising sign for the airline’s continued success and the broader regional tourism market.
