JTB spotlights Jordan as cinematic hub for Indian media delegation

The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) recently hosted a specialized media delegation from India, comprising 52 journalists, editors, and influencers from the film industry. This initiative, held from January 30 to February 2, 2024, aligns with the JTB’s strategic plans to promote and market Jordan’s tourist and historical attractions, aiming to garner global attention from filmmakers around the world.

The delegation was graciously welcomed during the filming of segments of the global Indian movie, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” shot in various locations across Jordan, including Wadi Rum, Aqaba, and Amman. The VIP guest list included renowned Indian actors such as Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, along with director Ali Abbas Zafar.

As part of the program, the JTB organized a press briefing for the Indian delegation to acquaint them with Jordan’s tourism promotion strategy for the Indian market. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, JTB’s Director-General, emphasized the global interest in Jordan’s tourism sector and film industry, underscoring the investment opportunities available in these sectors and highlighting Jordan’s stability and security regionally and globally.

The Royal Film Commission (RFC) played a pivotal role in supporting the Indian film by facilitating permits, identifying suitable filming locations, and streamlining customs clearance procedures for technical equipment. Mohannad Al Bakri, Managing Director of the Royal Film Commission, emphasized the close connection between the tourism sector and the film industry, noting the significant impact of showcasing Jordan’s locations and culture through global film productions.

During a press conference, Raja Gargour, Chairman of Olivewood Film Studios, highlighted historical filmmaking opportunities in Jordan and emphasized the vital role of Olivewood Studios in defining and facilitating such opportunities. He noted the transformation of Jordan’s film and visual storytelling industry into a crucial economic sector in recent years.

The JTB crafted a comprehensive tourist program for the Indian media delegation, including visits to key tourist and historical sites in Amman, Wadi Rum, Petra, and Aqaba. The delegation expressed admiration for Jordan’s rich tourism offerings and historical heritage, commending the warm hospitality of the Jordanian people and acknowledging the country’s stability and security at both regional and global levels.
