TUI Musement Names Top 30 Castles and Palaces for 2026 Heritage Travel in Europe

Prague Castle is still Europe’s most visited castle or palace in 2026, according to the latest rankings of TUI Musement, which is based on the Google review volume, demonstrating how strong the demand for cultural and heritage tourism in Europe stays. The recent ranking shows that historic castles and palaces are still attractive places for tourists who want to experience the culture, with many countries in the Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Austria, France, Poland, Spain, Germany, and Romania topping the list.

The ranking reflects the increasing popularity of heritage travel, when culture and history become one of the important factors in the choice of European travelers to spend autumn holidays. According to the research of the European Travel Commission (ETC), culture and history experiences become an important reason for traveling for European tourists in October and November. An additional study, which was independently conducted by TUI Musement, also revealed that 94 percent of the participants were interested or very interested in history and culture experiences during their city trip.

Prague Castle Leads Europe’s Heritage Attractions With Nearly 200,000 Reviews

Taking the number one position once again is Prague Castle in the Czech Republic, which has accumulated more than 199,000 Google reviews, representing a 31 percent increase compared with 2023. One of the largest palace complexes in the world, Prague Castle combines centuries of Czech history within a single destination. The site includes some of Prague’s most important landmarks:

Romania’s Bran Castle completes the top 10 ranking. Often known internationally as “Dracula’s Castle,” the fortress attracts visitors through a combination of legend, architecture and Romanian history. Although historical links between Bran Castle and Vlad Tepes, the figure associated with the Dracula legend, are limited, the castle’s dramatic location in Transylvania has made it one of Europe’s most recognisable attractions. Buda Castle Becomes Only New Entry in Europe’s Top 30 Ranking

The wider ranking of Europe’s top 30 castles and palaces highlights changing visitor interest across the continent. Spain leads with six entries, followed by the United Kingdom with four. Italy and Portugal each contribute three landmarks. The biggest newcomer is Buda Castle in Hungary, which enters the ranking at number 23 after a 65 percent increase in reviews compared with 2023. Each improved by two positions compared with the previous ranking. Meanwhile, some attractions experienced declines. The biggest fall was recorded by:

• Heidelberg Castle, Germany — down three places

The ranking from 2026 shows that castles and palaces still play an important role in European tourism.
