Kannur to have tourist center in each local body

On Wednesday, P.A. Mohammad Riyas, Public Works and Tourism Minister, Kerala, has explained that measures would be adopted to create at least one tourist centre in each local body in the district.

He stated that Kannur which is known for its exotic natural beauty, featuring magnificent mountains, the Arabian Sea, rivers, and lakes, had immense tourism potential.

At an online meeting, the Minister was speaking to all the local body presidents in connection to the development of tourism in the district. Mr. Riyas explained that Kannur could play an important role in the tourism map of Kerala.

Owing to COVID, the tourism which was going through a major crisis should get revitalized in any way. This would happen only by promoting local tourism, he said. Rural tourist attractions should include cultural heritage, food, ancient sites, historical relics, and agricultural practices, he said.

The Minister stated that tourism development should be done, keeping mind the local people. Plans should be formulated as per local characteristics.

To those selected at the local body level, training session would be provided. The potential of the Kannur Airport should be made use to make the district a better tourist destination.

The meeting was attended by District Panchayat President P.P. Divya, District Collector T.V. Subhash, Tourism Deputy Director T.V. Prashanth and local body presidents.
