Kenya Airways has officially announced its partnership with Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) as the designated airline sponsor for the upcoming Magical Kenya Open (MKO), set to occur from February 22nd to 25th, 2024, at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club.

In addition to this collaboration, KOGL will host Africa’s inaugural Golf for the Disabled (G4D) Tournament from February 19th to 20th, 2024, prior to the MKO event. This initiative underscores Kenya’s dedication to fostering inclusivity in golf, as evidenced by its recent affiliation with the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA).

Commenting on the partnership, Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka said that KQ is committed to supporting people with disabilities (PWDs) and promoting sports tourism.

“Kenya Airways is at the forefront of promoting initiatives that drive inclusivity and accessibility for people with disability. Programmes like G4D are vital for offering athletes with disabilities the opportunity to showcase their talent and sports fans a chance to experience the joy of Golf and sports. Our in-kind sponsorship will provide seamless travel experiences for G4D golfers, their caddies, event participants, tourists, and spectators.”

As part of its sponsorship, Kenya Airways will facilitate seamless travel experiences for G4D participants, offering five return tickets and complimentary carriage of golf bags for the G4D players and their caddies. Additionally, KQ will extend its support to European Tour Group officials and provide discounted fares to over 200 players and caddies attending DP World Tour events.

”With Kenya Airways continued support in the Magical Kenya Open, it’s a true testament of how corporate organisations are committed towards the growth of golf in the country and putting the country on the world map. We are also extremely grateful to Kenya Airways for extending their support to the team who will be participating in the first ever Golf for Disabled tournament in Africa to be held alongside the 2024 Magical Kenya Open ‘’, said Peter Kanyago, Chairman, Kenya Open Golf Limited.

Kenya Airways has been instrumental in driving sports tourism in Kenya through partnerships with various sporting events. Its collaboration with MKO exemplifies its dedication to showcasing Kenya as a premier destination for sports tourism, highlighting the country’s vibrant golfing scene and rich cultural heritage.

The Magical Kenya Open, established in 1967 as part of the Safari Circuit and now a fixture on the DP World Tour, promises economic benefits for local businesses and enhanced international visibility for Kenya. This aligns with Kenya Airways’ broader mission of fostering prosperity across Africa by facilitating connections between people, cultures, and markets. MKO serves as a platform to spotlight Kenya and Africa on the global stage of sports and tourism, celebrating the nation’s diverse culture and natural beauty.
