The Kerala Tourism Minister took part in rafting and kayaking on the Anjarakandi River in the district of Kannur, highlighting the potential of the state’s rivers, and the tourism opportunities they might represent.

The tourism minister said that the water tourism has great potential for Kerala. It is also a safe getaway for families during the pandemic. Rafting and kayaking through our rivers will be an unforgettable experience. The government will look into creating an adventure tourism circuit linking the rivers of Kerala. Necessary infrastructure would be developed in key points of the circuit. The completion of the waterway project will impart an added momentum to aqua tourism in the state.

The minister said that no serious efforts have been made to develop river tourism in Kerala so far. However, now the government is seriously working toward developing river tourism in Kerala. This should help increase the number of domestic and international tourists in the state.

Covering 11 districts, the waterway project will allow tourists with an opportunity to experience the water highways of Kerala, and about 50 tourism spots will be created along the way, on the banks of the rivers. The West Coast Canal will run from Kovalam to Kasaragod, all 633 kms.
