On Friday, in Kerala, the last batch Nipah patients were discharged from hospital, removing a huge fright that was hanging over the tourism prospects of this southern state just when it was entering its peak tourism season for this year.

In Kozhikode district, on Friday, the medical fraternity of this district where Nipah made its attack this year threw a sigh of relief, a soppiness that was shared by tourism operators as on Friday all patients left for their homes finally. The remaining four of the last few Nipah virus patients who were on ventilator support, including a child, were declared absolutely fit to go home were finally discharged from hospital. Their observation period will end on October 5.

To take advantage of this situation and get tourism bounce back that had been hit majorly during the COVID-19 and a momentary hindrance owing to the Nipah fright, the state is initiating a new concept, ‘Workation’. It is aimed at tapping the developing new opportunities in remote work internationally. This idea aims to draw people to remote-work from some of the idyllic tourism locations of Kerala, with a combination of weekday work and weekend leisure at the destination. However, remote work is going to stay and there is no doubt about it.
