Kerala sees 20 percent drop in domestic footfall

In the initial six months of 2023, marking an upsurge of 20.1% from 88,95,593 tourist arrivals in terms of domestic ones during the same time 2022, P.A. Mohamed Riyas, Tourism Minister, Kerala, informed the Assembly on Monday.


He mentioned that the arrival of international visitors also listed a growth of 171.55% in the initial half of 2023. As many as 2,87,730 international visitors visited Kerala in 2023, while 1,05,960 was the corresponding figure in 2022.


There had been a constant rise in revenue churned by the tourism from 2020 to The tourism industry in 2022 netted a revenue of ₹35,168.42 crore, it was much higher than 2021 figures with ₹12,285.91 crore and ₹11,335.96 crore in 2020.


The figures compiled by the Tourism department pinpointed that Ernakulam topped the chart with 22,16,250 in domestic tourist arrivals followed by Idukki with 18,01,502, Thiruvananthapuram with 17,21,264, Thrissur with 11,67,788, Wayanad with 8,71,664 and Kozhikode with 6,74,237 respectively.
