Kerala Tourism has a lot of possibility to assist the development of the State, said P.A. Mohamed Riyas, the Tourism Minister of Kerala. Riyas inaugurated a seminar on ‘Kerala Development and Tourism Possibilities’, which was held as part of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists’ (KUWJ) state conference.

The minister said that people need to believe that if there is a tourist spot, it will surely bring a change in their lives.

Post pandemic, there hasn’t been a marked increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Kerala. However, numerous arrangements put into effect by the Tourism department have helped in attracting domestic tourists in large numbers once again.

The Minister lamented the fact that when Time magazine has selected Kerala among 50 ‘extraordinary destinations’ around the world to visit in 2022, it has not been given satisfactory advertising by the media. It would have been different if Kerala had been another state. The media needs to be cautious that negative news does not disturb the prospective of the tourism sector, said Minister Riyas.

There are a lot of unfamiliar tourist spots in Kerala. The media needs to broadcast attributes about these destinations and come up with detailed ideas to explore them, said Minister Riyas.

He also said that Kerala had been trying to resolve the travel concerns by ensuring the expansion of national highways, hill and coastal highways.
