Kerala Tourism Minister reveals logos for International Paragliding & Surfing Competition

Today, Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas revealed the logos for the upcoming International Paragliding Competition and International Surfing Festival, both set to take place in Kerala this month. This announcement solidifies Kerala’s position as a premier destination for adventure tourism.

The ‘International Paragliding Competition 2024’, the inaugural event in a series of four adventure tourism extravaganzas this year, is scheduled to run from March 14 to 17 in Vagamon, Idukki. Following closely, the International Surfing Festival will be held at Varkala from March 29 to 31, marking the commencement of this year’s national surfing championship.

These events represent a concerted effort to firmly establish Kerala on the global adventure tourism stage, with Tourism Director Shri P B Nooh also in attendance during the logo unveiling ceremony.

In addition to the aforementioned events, the International Mountain Terrain Biking Championship (MTB Kerala 2024) and the Malabar River Festival are also set to captivate audiences.

The ‘International Paragliding Competition 2024’, serving as the inaugural event of the year, promises to be the largest aero sports adventure festival, attracting over 100 nationally and internationally renowned paragliders.

The festival has garnered interest from more than 15 countries, boasting participation from numerous paragliding international champions and renowned riders. The four-day extravaganza will witness contestants hailing from France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, the US, the UK, Nepal, as well as several Indian states including Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh. The paragliding competitions will encompass various disciplines such as Mini XC, Spot Landing at Top Landing Spot, Mini Acrobatics Show, Hike and Fly, Ground handling, and Thermaling.

Jointly organized by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) under the Department of Tourism and the Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council, with technical assistance from the Paragliding Association of India, this event promises excitement and thrill.At the same time, the International Surfing Festival scheduled at Varkala from March 29 to 31 signifies the commencement of the year’s first national surfing championship.

Surfing enthusiasts from India’s east and west coastal cities will vie for victory across different categories, aiming to elevate Kerala as the prime surfing destination in India and foster the sport’s growth nationwide. The competitions will encompass SUP Technical Race, SUP Long Distance, SUP Sprint Race, Paddleboard Technical Race, Paddleboard Long Distance, and SUP Surfing.

This event is a collaborative effort between the International Surfing Association, KATPS, Thiruvananthapuram DTPC, and the Surfing Federation of India, striving to promote and celebrate the exhilarating sport of surfing.
