The County Executive Committee member for Tourism Achie Alai says the county has been on a shopping spree to identify a product that is unique.

Alai says the Fish Fiesta has the potential to pull local and international tourists to Kisumu following its launch during Easter Holidays.

Alai said that they are identifying the things that are attractive in Kisumu. The people of Kisumu love fish. People come for conferences from different parts of the country and they want to eat fish…specifically eat fish by the beach.

She also said that the county will scale up the fiesta to attract more tourists to Kisumu as a way of boosting the economy of the region.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu during a tourism forum, Alai says fish eating is an adventure and will market Kisumu as a tourist destination.

She announced that the county is rolling out another fish fiesta in August this year when Kisumu will be hosting a cultural event organized by UNESCO.

Alai says the county government is set to refurbish Hippo Point along Lake Victoria as the event site to host fish fiesta.
