In Kiulu, three community-based tourism (CoBT) operators are progressing toward achieving the prestigious Asean Tourism Standard accreditation. These operators include Lingga Eco-Tourism, Murug Turug Eco-Tourism, and Bambangan Lama Recreational Centre. This initiative was highlighted by the Kiulu assemblyman during the launch of a new riverside camp and tourism centre, emphasizing the step as a milestone for rural tourism development in Kiulu.
The push for Asean Standard accreditation underscores Kiulu’s dedication to sustainable tourism, aiming to protect its cultural and natural heritage while boosting the local economy. The endorsement by the Asean CoBT Standard would not only elevate Kiulu on a global scale, attracting tourists seeking genuine experiences but also provide economic upliftment through job creation and business stimulation.
Kiulu’s journey from a modest beginning to now hosting over 70 tourism businesses demonstrates significant growth in community-engaged tourism. Selected as a rural tourism development site, Kiulu has seen a remarkable transformation, reflecting in increased tourist interest in rural destinations. This progress represents a collaborative effort towards responsible tourism that benefits both the community and the environment.
