For the second consecutive year, Tokyo remains the top destination for Korean Air travelers, according to the airline’s year-end report released this week. The Japanese capital topped the list of most popular travel spots for Korean passengers, followed closely by Osaka and Fukuoka. Bangkok, the bustling capital of Thailand, took the fourth spot. Japan continues to dominate as the preferred destination for travelers from Korea, with Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka maintaining their strong positions.

Korean Air also saw significant growth in travel to China, especially to major cities like Shanghai and Beijing. The number of passengers traveling from Korean cities to Shanghai surged by 128,000 compared to the previous year, while the number to Beijing increased by 71,000. This surge in demand follows the Chinese government’s introduction of a new visa-free entry program for Korean nationals. The program, launched in November 2024, offers visa-free stays for up to 15 days and will be extended until 2026, further boosting travel between Korea and China.
Between January 1 and November 10, 2025, Korean Air carried more than 16.49 million passengers, covering a total of 280 million kilometers. This vast distance, equivalent to nearly 6,986 trips around the globe, highlights the carrier’s extensive global reach and operational capacity. The airline’s commitment to connecting the world is evident in the sheer scale of its operations.

Passenger demographics revealed interesting travel trends. Individuals in their 30s and 40s made up the largest portion of the airline’s clientele, accounting for 40 percent of total passengers. Another 30 percent of travelers were aged in their 50s and 60s. Meanwhile, foreign nationals represented 35 percent of all Korean Air passengers, with U.S. and Chinese travelers each comprising 24 percent of this group. The report also highlighted several unique travel patterns. The airline’s most frequent customer of the year flew a remarkable 216 times. Additionally, Korean Air provided its children assistance service to nearly 5,200 unaccompanied minors, ensuring safe and smooth travel for young passengers. Pets also made their way across borders with Korean Air, with the airline transporting almost 32,000 pets to various international destinations. The most-watched in-flight movie was Captain America: Brave New World, a superhero blockbuster that captivated passengers throughout the year. Meanwhile, the most popular TV series was the Korean romantic comedy Lovely Runner, which captured the hearts of viewers during their flights. In the comedy category, MBC’s I Live Alone emerged as the most-watched show, offering passengers a mix of humor and light-hearted entertainment during their travels.
Korean Air also demonstrated its dedication to providing exceptional in-flight dining experiences. Passengers in the airline’s Prestige business class most frequently chose stir-fried spicy octopus with rice, a dish that quickly became a favorite for those seeking an authentic and flavorful Korean meal while in the air. This emphasis on quality dining reflects the airline’s commitment to delivering a superior travel experience across all aspects of its service.
In terms of future growth, Korean Air is continuing its expansion plans with the acquisition of Asiana Airlines, Korea’s second-largest carrier. The integration of Asiana Airlines into the Korean Air fold is set to be completed by 2027.
