LANGDALE CHASE HOTEL, lake

Nestled on the edge of Lake Windermere, Langdale Chase Hotel proudly unveils its doors after an extensive 12-month rejuvenation process. Melding modernity with tranquility, the hotel’s refreshment brings serene hues to its 30 guest rooms, all while honoring the structure’s rich legacy dating from 1890. Renowned for its warm hospitality, Langdale Chase Hotel presents an idyllic retreat by the lakeside. Whether guests opt for a bustling adventure or a peaceful sojourn doing very little, this hotel caters to all desires at its secluded waterfront locale.

The interior of each room at Langdale Chase Hotel is thoughtfully curated, showcasing the building’s original charm. Among the seven luxurious suites, unique features abound: some offer snug alcoves for reading with lake vistas, and one even displays a stained-glass ceiling. Two rooms hide a delightful secret: wardrobe doors leading to hidden bathrooms. Guests are treated to a complimentary minibar, and the hotel collaborates with the local Cumbrian Bath House brand for its exquisite bathroom amenities. The Windermere and Lakehouse Rooms invite relaxation with their cozy furnishings, and pet owners will appreciate the five canine-friendly accommodations. An intriguing array of books adorns each room, and select ones also feature binoculars, private outdoor terraces, and expansive bathtubs.

For those seeking a private sanctuary, the historic Boathouse is a gem. Located separately and right by the water, this exclusive suite boasts a balcony and a rooftop terrace offering sweeping views across Lake Windermere.

The hotel’s gardens, the only lakeside hotel garden in the vicinity, span 4.5 acres and are a sight to behold, originally designed by renowned landscape architect Thomas Hayton Mawson. Currently, the hotel collaborates with famed garden designer Annie Guilfoyle to revitalize this historic landscape, with guided tours offered by Head Gardener Claire Farrington.

Langdale Chase, a hotel since 1937, is conveniently situated near a plethora of local attractions. Through a partnership with a Cumbrian adventure provider, guests can indulge in exciting activities like off-road driving, clay pigeon shooting, and various water sports. The hotel’s kitchen prepares picnic baskets for guests embarking on scenic hikes.

Indoor enthusiasts can partake in wine tastings with expert sommelier Julien Hennebelle or enjoy classic film screenings in the hotel’s cinema, complete with bento boxes and ice cream. The hotel also offers cozy reading and lounge areas with original fireplaces.

The hotel’s dining experience, awarded two AA Rosettes, includes seasonal dishes and comforting classics like lobster roll and wagyu beef burger. The main dining room provides a splendid view and a culinary journey inspired by the local landscape, along with afternoon tea and Sunday lunch. Outdoor dining and a well-curated wine list add to the allure, with plans for a kitchen garden to enhance the culinary experience.

Langdale Chase Hotel embodies a vision of exceptional hospitality in a setting once praised by poet William Wordsworth as the most beautiful place ever discovered by humankind.
