Lanzarote Now Increases Entrance Fees for Top Tourist Attractions, Impacting Visitors to Timanfaya and More

Published on December 19, 2025

The boards of the CACTs (Centres of Art, Culture, and Tourism) of Lanzarote recently announced an increase in entrance fees for some of the most visited attractions on the island of Lanzarote. The latest fee rise is the second one within the last two years that has resulted due to a previous rise of up to 66% in entrance fees, which took place previously. The rise is applicable from the next New Year.

This move to raise the fees has, however, received mixed reactions, some fearing that it will reduce the number of visitors, but others appreciating that these historical sites require more funding to be maintained. Despite this recent increase, the revenue that these historical sites generate from their sales has improved.

Timanfaya National Park – Montañas de Fuego Fee Increases to €30

One of the most significant changes is the entrance fee for the Timanfaya National Park, specifically for the Montañas de Fuego (Mountains of Fire). The new entrance price for adults will be €30, with a reduced rate of €15 for children. Timanfaya National Park is one of Lanzarote’s most popular attractions, renowned for its dramatic volcanic landscape and geothermal demonstrations. The increase in entrance fees to this iconic location is part of a broader trend of price hikes across the island’s leading tourist spots.

The Montañas de Fuego offers visitors a chance to experience the unique volcanic terrain of Lanzarote, with guided tours showcasing the island’s geothermal activity, including demonstrations of heat emanating from the earth’s surface. The experience is one that draws tourists from around the world, eager to witness the power and beauty of the island’s volcanic landscape. Despite the rise in price, many tourists still regard it as a must-see experience when visiting Lanzarote.

Jameos del Agua and Cueva de Los Verdes Join the Price Hike

Two of Lanzarote’s most iconic sites, Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de Los Verdes, will also see a price increase, with tickets for each now set at €17 for adults. For children, the cost will be €8.50. These attractions, designed by the renowned artist César Manrique, have long been a favorite among visitors for their stunning natural beauty and innovative use of the island’s unique landscapes.

Jameos del Agua, a series of volcanic caves transformed into a cultural center, and the nearby Cueva de Los Verdes, a network of caves with rich geological formations, are both essential stops for those interested in the natural and artistic heritage of Lanzarote. With the new ticket prices, these attractions continue to offer a glimpse into the island’s volcanic history while integrating art and culture in spectacular ways. However, the price increase may lead to concerns for some tourists who may need to reconsider their itinerary.

Cactus Garden and Mirador del Rio Fees Set at €9

Another change to the ticket structure affects the Cactus Garden and Mirador del Rio, two other key sites on the island. The entrance fee for both attractions will now be set at €9 for adults, with children paying half price. The Cactus Garden, another creation by César Manrique, is a unique garden that features thousands of cacti from around the world, while the Mirador del Rio offers stunning panoramic views of the island and surrounding areas. Both attractions are highly popular among visitors due to their scenic beauty and the opportunity to experience Lanzarote’s exceptional natural environment.

These attractions, while still relatively affordable, have seen an increase in their entrance fees, reflecting the broader trend of rising prices across the island’s most significant tourist sites. The new ticket prices are likely to impact visitors who were hoping to experience multiple sites during their stay, as the cost of visiting several attractions on Lanzarote is steadily rising.

Castillo de San José: A Lower Price for Historical Exploration

On the other hand, one of the island’s cultural attractions, the Castillo de San José, will maintain a more modest entrance fee of €5.40 for adults and €2.70 for children. The Castillo de San José, a historical fortress now home to the Lanzarote Art Museum, offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the island’s past, as well as the opportunity to enjoy contemporary art in an extraordinary setting. Despite the rise in fees for other attractions, the relatively low cost of visiting the Castillo de San José makes it an attractive option for those looking to explore Lanzarote’s history and culture on a budget.

Special Discounts for Canary Island and Lanzarote Residents

While the entrance fee increases apply to international tourists, residents of the Canary Islands, including Lanzarote itself, will continue to benefit from significant discounts. Local residents will pay one or two Euros less per visit to most of the attractions, maintaining their accessibility to the island’s cultural and natural treasures. This pricing strategy acknowledges the importance of local visitors to the success of these sites and aims to support their continued engagement with Lanzarote’s tourism offerings.

Impact on Tourist Numbers and Tourism Revenue

The decision to raise entrance fees at these major attractions has had a notable effect on tourist attendance, with a decrease in the number of visitors recorded at some of the most popular sites. However, despite the drop in attendance, income from ticket sales has increased, suggesting that while fewer visitors are coming, those who do are willing to pay higher prices for the experiences on offer.

This trend of higher spending per visitor aligns with a broader shift in the tourism industry toward premium experiences and a focus on high-value tourists. Many tourists are now seeking unique, high-quality experiences, and Lanzarote’s attractions continue to cater to this demand, even with the price increases.

A Strategic Move to Maintain and Enhance Tourism Infrastructure

The increase in entrance fees is part of a broader strategy to maintain and enhance Lanzarote’s tourism infrastructure. With the funds generated from ticket sales, the CACTs are better positioned to invest in the maintenance and development of these sites, ensuring that they remain appealing and sustainable for future generations of tourists.

By raising prices, the authorities are signaling their intent to provide a top-tier tourism experience, focusing on preserving the island’s unique environment and cultural heritage. For tourists, the higher prices may be seen as a reflection of the value they receive from the experience, given the island’s exceptional offerings.

Rising Prices Reflect Growing Demand for Lanzarote’s Attractions

Although the recent increase in the entrance ticket prices for the major tourist attractions on the island of Lanzarote may affect the budget of some tourists, it appears unlikely that it will have a significant influence on the number of tourist arrivals on the island. The tourism market on the island of Lanzarote has undergone changes, as the target market will include high-value customers who will invest in the cultural and natural resources on the island. With the sites continuing to receive a steady stream of tourist traffic, the revenue generated will finance the maintenance of their high quality.
