The LATAM group achieved significant milestones in operating performance during the quarter, marked by notable increases in capacity (ASK), passenger traffic (RPK), and the number of passengers transported, as per the latest March 2024 operating statistics released by the group.
In the first quarter of the year, the LATAM group transported 20.2 million passengers, reflecting a remarkable 19.4% surge compared to the same period in 2023. This growth is attributed to a 32.5% rise in international passenger traffic, a 26.0% increase in domestic markets served by affiliates in Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, and a 9.1% uptick in the domestic market served by the Brazilian affiliate. In March 2024 alone, the LATAM group transported 6.7 million passengers, marking a 16.9% increase compared to March 2023.
Capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), saw a consolidated increase of 17.5% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, surpassing 2019 levels by 1.2%. Specifically, in March, the group expanded its consolidated capacity by 17.8%.
Consolidated passenger traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), surged by 22.3% during the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year. March saw a similar trend with a 22.2% growth driven by a 31.1% increase in international demand, a 17.1% rise in domestic demand from affiliates in Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, and an 11.8% increase in the domestic demand of the Brazilian affiliate.
Consequently, the consolidated load factor for March reached 83.1%, marking a 3.0 percentage point increase compared to March 2023. Notably, the domestic load factor of the Brazilian affiliate witnessed a notable increase of 5.1 percentage points during the month.
Cargo capacity, measured in available ton kilometers (ATK), witnessed a 13.8% increase compared to March 2023, reaching 655 million available ton-kilometers.
