One out of every four British women find the notion of proposing to be empowering. Paris, along with Rome and Venice, emerges as the top destinations for women considering proposing to their partners. Among the most romantic settings for proposals are dinner for two, beachside settings, and boat outings.

British women are poised to challenge conventional gender roles this February 29th, with four out of five considering mustering the courage to propose to their partners on this leap day.

Defying traditional norms, a recent study conducted by easyJet Holidays, the UK’s fastest growing tour operator, unveils that a quarter of women express a greater likelihood of proposing on a Leap Day than any other day.

To assist those planning a romantic proposal, easyJet Holidays shares the prime destinations for leap year proposals. Paris takes the lead as the unofficial city of love, closely trailed by Rome and Venice with their picturesque canals. The holiday package provider encourages women intending to propose to reach out via their social media channels.

Moreover, British women express a preference for proposing during a romantic private dinner (61%), at the beach (43%), or on a scenic boat excursion (35%). Other favored options include atop a cliff at sunset (28%), while witnessing the Northern Lights (24%) or atop a mountain (16%).

Top destinations for leap year proposals:

1. Paris (55%)
2. Rome (45%)
3. Venice (34%)
4. Santorini (24%)
5. Amsterdam (15%)
6. Prague (15%)
7. Tuscany (14%)
8. Madrid (12%)
9. Athens (11%)
10. Copenhagen (10%)

According to folklore, in the 5th century, St. Brigid of Kildare voiced her dissatisfaction to St. Patrick regarding women having to wait excessively long for shy men to propose. Consequently, St. Patrick decreed that on a designated day every four years, women are entitled to propose themselves.

With two in five (39%) British women viewing the leap year tradition as an opportunity for a future anecdote, a leap year could signify a shift in the dynamics of relationships.

Despite a quarter (24%) expressing concerns that their partners might not appreciate being proposed to, more than a third (37%) embrace the idea of women proposing to their partners, while one in four (23%) believe a leap day proposal would alleviate pressure for their partner.

Matt Callaghan, Chief Operating Officer at easyJet Holidays said: “We’re passionate about helping our customers create lifelong memories, so we’re pleased to offer some of the most romantic spots in Europe for a leap year proposal.

“It’s clear from our research that women across the UK have the desire to propose to their significant others on holiday, to kick off the rest of their lives together in the best possible way, and our getaways offer the perfect backdrop to this. What’s more, our unbeatable value leaves more budget for the all-important engagement ring!”
