“Let’s Make The Right Move” Athens Airport Awards 2023 top growing Airlines at 2.3 Workshop

This year, the Athens International Airport (AIA) held its acclaimed Airline Marketing Workshop, engaging over 200 participants in a strategic exploration of the aviation industry, with a special emphasis on the future landscape of global airports and aviation. Dubbed “Let’s Make the Right Move,” the workshop leveraged the metaphor of chess to encourage a collective, strategic approach within the Athens Airport Community.

The event was graced by notable speakers from various fields such as aviation, tourism, economics, cutting-edge technology, and digital transformation. They directed the audience’s attention to strategic decision-making and upcoming challenges. A highlight of the workshop was the session led by chess legend Garry Kasparov, who delved into the Art of Strategic Thinking, linking it directly to the theme of this year’s conference.

The workshop featured a series of presentations and discussions, including insights into the European airport industry, the Athens tourism experience, strategic planning in tourism and travel, and the challenges and opportunities of long-haul markets. A particular focus was given to digital transformation strategies and unique airport operations, alongside a discussion on public markets and strategic investment moves.

The workshop also celebrated the achievements within the Athens airport community through the annual AIA awards, recognizing airlines that showed significant growth and performance in various regions and markets in 2023. The awards ceremony, creatively presented by actors Dimitris Makalias and Zissis Roubos, highlighted the winners in categories ranging from domestic and international growth to the best overall traffic performance.

Yiannis Paraschis, CEO of Athens International Airport, closed the workshop with remarks on the airport’s exceptional achievements over the past year, including surpassing pre-pandemic records and emphasizing the importance of sustainability and environmental initiatives in the face of international challenges.
