Lieutenant Governor requests for eco-tourism & wood-based industry promotion

Today, in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha requested for bringing in new avenues like Ecotourism, promotion of Wood-Based Industries and Non-Timber Forest Products under the ambit of J&K Forest Department.

The effort targeted to additionally improve forest sector’s contribution in the financial growth of J & K.

The Lietenant Governor was delivering his speech during the commemoration of Foundation day of J&K Forest Department “130 Years of Dedicated Service” programme organized at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.

Lt Governor emphasizing the maintenance of a perfect balance between nature and development, he defined the role of Forest Department as crucial and requested the concerned functionaries to see all the methods for lessening the unfavorable impacts of development.

He also mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir is on its way of fast development and taking Governance to the doorstep of every people out there, is the top-most priority of the Union Territory Government.

Also, Lt Governor maintained that to attain the targeted results, there is an urgency to put tremendous focus on Jan-Bhagidhari and active involvement of grass root level institutions like Village Panchayats in Natural Resource Management.
