London Gatwick has officially joined the Sussex Six Campaign by Natural Partnerships CIC, committing to increasing the availability of local produce in both stores and dining options throughout the airport.

Passengers can now purchase the first four new products from World Duty Free stores, which include a selection of Ridgeview wines. These wines originate from a vineyard near Burgess Hill in Mid Sussex and are already served in London Gatwick’s Vagabond restaurant and bar, as well as the premium sparkling wine bar, South Downs. The introduction of these products in retail allows passengers to sample them before purchasing and boarding their flights.

The Sussex Six team has also introduced a variety of local produce, including items from Horsham, to showcase to the airport’s restaurants and retailers.

In the upcoming months, London Gatwick plans to incorporate more locally-produced food and beverages into its diverse range of dining options, bars, and retail stores.

Richard Lennard, Economic Partnerships Manager, London Gatwick said: “We are delighted to join this exciting campaign to support the local Sussex economy, by adding more local food and drink producers to our supply chain at London Gatwick.

“It’s important to us at the airport to support the Sussex community, and we are delighted to help our passengers discover the wonderful local produce that is grown and made across the region.”

The Sussex Six Campaign, coordinated by Natural Partnerships CIC and backed by Horsham District Council and the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, has garnered the support of over 50 local establishments including shops, restaurants, pubs, and cafes. They have pledged to incorporate six or more local products into their offerings.

In June 2023, the upscale South Downs Bar debuted in London Gatwick’s South Terminal, serving as a platform to highlight locally sourced produce. Additionally, Gatwick Airport already features Sussex food and drink, such as Nyetimber wine, available in its World Duty Free stores.

Cllr Ruth Fletcher, Horsham District Council said: We are thrilled London Gatwick has agreed to join the Sussex Campaign, providing a fantastic opportunity for local food and drink producers to reach the huge audience passing through the airport.

“This is the start of a fantastic partnership which will allow us to showcase the superb range of Sussex food and drink we produce to an international audience.”

Mardi Roberts, Director of Communications, Ridgeview said: London Gatwick is Sussex’s gateway to the world. They have been incredibility supportive of Sussex Wine Tourism and champions for our visitor economy. We are thrilled that Ridgeview sparkling wine will now be available for holiday makers to take on their celebration travels and spread the word about the quality of our Sussex produce.”

The Sussex Six Campaign has secured a £25,000 grant from the UK Government via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

London Gatwick is proactively investing in its future, and its initiative to activate the Northern Runway at the airport has progressed to the evaluation phase with the Planning Inspectorate. This sustainable strategy is designed to improve operational robustness, reduce delays, and significantly benefit the national and regional economy through bolstering trade, tourism, and employment opportunities.
