Londoners are bracing themselves for a week of travel chaos as Tube workers from the RMT and Aslef unions embark on a week-long “week of action” from July 23 to July 29. This strike action comes as a response to the threat of 600 jobs being cut on the London Underground, which could significantly impact various aspects of the network, including station operations and maintenance.

Transport for London has warned passengers that the strike will result in limited or no Tube services for most of the week, except for Saturday, July 29. On July 23 and 29, services will start later than usual, and passengers are encouraged to complete their journeys by 1900 on July 23. However, on July 25 and 27, little to no service is expected on the Tube, while on July 26 and 28, there will be no Tube service at all, including the Night Tube.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch emphasizes the importance of their members’ work and highlights their opposition to the proposed job cuts and pension attacks. Despite budget cuts to Transport for London, he urges the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to support the union and stand against the government’s detrimental agenda affecting key parts of the city’s transport infrastructure.

While the Overground, Elizabeth Line, buses, DLR, tram, and IFS Cloud Cable Car services are not affected by the strikes, some DLR, Overground (including night services), and Elizabeth Line trains may experience disruptions due to shared station closures.

With roads expected to be busier than usual and other public transport services unaffected by the strike, Transport for London advises commuters to plan ahead, check station statuses before traveling, and consider alternative modes of transport like walking or cycling where possible.

As Londoners face the impending disruption, it’s crucial for everyone to stay informed, be patient, and prepare for potential delays and challenges during this week of action.
