Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has initiated a partnership with the tech group Veovo to enhance the passenger experience across its three airports: Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands. This collaboration aims to manage increasing passenger numbers, which have recently returned to nearly pre-pandemic levels, by minimizing queue times and ensuring a consistently smooth process for arrivals, departures, and transfers.
Through the integration of Veovo’s Passenger Flow Management solution, MAG intends to gain a deeper understanding of the movement and behavior of passengers within each airport facility. This understanding will vary from flight to flight, providing MAG with the necessary data to optimize airport operations. The system promises to deliver actionable intelligence that will enable MAG to tailor airport services effectively and reduce waiting times, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
Veovo’s sensor-agnostic analytics platform allows MAG to select a combination of sensors that best fit the unique specifications of each airport’s physical space, such as ceiling heights and lane layouts. This flexibility is crucial for accurately monitoring passenger movements and managing flows throughout the terminals. The technology utilized includes LiDAR, 3D stereo cameras, and existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to track how passengers navigate through the terminal, providing real-time data on queue times at critical points and offering insights into flight-specific appearance profiles, dwell times, and movements.
Nick Woods, CIO of MAG, highlighted the variability in passenger flow depending on factors such as the airline, time of day, and destination. He noted that this variability could significantly impact terminal operations. With Veovo’s system, MAG can make informed, data-driven decisions to enhance the passenger experience from the moment they arrive at the airport until they board their plane.
James Williamson, CEO of Veovo, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, viewing it as a pivotal development in MAG’s strategy to transform the customer experience. He anticipates that Veovo’s predictive insights will not only improve the passenger experience in the short term but also support MAG’s long-term planning based on robust data analytics.
