Sligo County Council has approved a proposal by the Enniscrone and District Community Development Company to significantly revamp the town’s Cliff Walk Promenade. This development is set to redefine Enniscrone’s appearance and enhance its appeal.

The project, which includes the reimagining of the Enniscrone Cliff Bath House, Pavilion, and Promenade, will unfold in three stages. The initiative aims to renovate the Cliff Bath House, construct a modern replacement for the Pavilion Building in the Hollows, and introduce extensive public realm landscaping along the Cliff Walk to connect these pivotal structures.

A novel seaside sauna and therapy center within the historical Cliff Bath House is envisioned to preserve its heritage while complementing the nearby seaweed baths. The plan suggests minimal alterations to the structure, filling its spaces with dry saunas, therapy, and relaxation rooms that require little to no significant modifications. Additionally, one room, notable for its 19th-century arched ceiling, will be preserved as a museum for visitors.

The proposed pavilion is designed to blend into the hillside discreetly, spanning three levels. This includes a rooftop terrace intended for social gatherings and events, a café on the middle level offering panoramic views of Enniscrone’s beach and beyond, and a versatile community space on the lowest level, designed to host various activities beneath an expansive external entrance.

Furthermore, the project plans to introduce a new public realm featuring accessible pathways, connections, and spaces for shelter, play, and relaxation, allowing residents and visitors to fully engage with Enniscrone’s coastal scenery.

The architectural team, consisting of Dorman Architects and NOJI Architects, has expressed their enthusiasm following the project’s approval. They believe this ambitious public realm development will significantly influence how the community interacts with their environment, fostering new ways for people to congregate, stroll, exercise, and connect with the natural world around them.
