A Southern spokesperson recently reported via X that a malfunction with line-side equipment has resulted in a halt of all train services between Barnham, Worthing, and Horsham. This interruption is expected to persist indefinitely.
The disruption, which began earlier, was confirmed to last until 11:30 pm, severely affecting the network’s schedule.
As a consequence of the equipment issue, several changes have been made to the usual train services. Trains that typically run from Southampton to London Victoria are now only operating up to Barnham. Additionally, the route from London Victoria to Bognor Regis, which usually continues to Horsham, has been canceled from London Victoria onward.
Trains connecting Brighton to Portsmouth, Littlehampton, or Southampton have been restricted to operate only up to Worthing. This has significantly reduced the number of services available.
Travelers have been advised not to commence their journeys to or from the affected stations until further notice. For those who are already traveling, it is recommended to seek alternative routes to reach their destinations. The spokesperson noted that the live map on their website could be a valuable resource, displaying closed lines with a black indicator to signify that no services are operating on that route.
For passengers needing to continue their travels, Southern is actively working to arrange ticket acceptance with nearby operators to facilitate travel around the affected areas. Passengers are encouraged to check the alternative route maps provided online to aid in planning their onward journeys and are advised to allow additional time to complete their travels due to the reduced service availability.
