There was a steady increase in passenger volume and flight movement in the country’s main gateway during the fourth quarter of 2023, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Monday.
In November, MIAA recorded 3,813,781 passengers — 2,019,882 domestic and 1,793,899 international travelers. This represents an increase of 23 percent compared to the same period last year and is nearly equivalent to 97 percent of the passenger count in November 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the same time, there was a significant rise in flight activity at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in November, surpassing the previous records set in 2022 and 2019.
The total number of commercial, cargo, and utility flights reached 24,120, up by 13 percent compared to November 2022 and a seven percent growth from November 2019.
MIAA Officer-in-Charge Bryan Co is confident that NAIA is well-positioned to meet its year-end projections of 45 million passengers and 275,000 flights.
