On August 3, 2023, Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, the renowned hideaway of the Riviera Maya, will once again open its doors, unveiling a stunning transformation that pays homage to Mayan design, traditions, and culture. Set amidst 200 acres of lush tropical jungle and the secluded white sands of Mexico’s Caribbean coast, Maroma emerges as a soulful celebration of Mexico’s craft, design, and culinary treasures.
Reimagined Mexican Heritage
Tara Bernerd & Partners, the globally acclaimed design studio, has seamlessly integrated the essence of Mexican heritage into Maroma’s architecture. The hotel’s white stucco buildings, aligned to the Sacred Geometry of Mayan masonry, now house an array of pan-Mexican art and design. Local artisans collaborated to craft furnishings and décor, resulting in a relaxed, hacienda-style living environment that harmonizes with nature. Organic forms, handwoven textiles, and panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea evoke an intrinsic connection with the environment.
Luxurious Living Spaces
Maroma offers 72 rooms, suites, and villas, each thoughtfully designed to embrace the tranquility of its private beachfront. The newly introduced beachfront suites provide unobstructed ocean views and direct beach access, with some featuring private pools and gardens. Furnishings, inspired by local traditions, evoke a sense of belonging to the region, while Xinú’s custom fragrances and bath amenities immerse guests in the scents of the Amate tree, clay, incense, and lemon.
Culinary Excellence
The culinary experience at Maroma is a sensory journey through Mexican flavors and traditions. Woodend by Curtis Stone, the signature restaurant in partnership with Michelin-star chef Curtis Stone, offers seasonal dishes prepared using open-fire techniques. Casa Mayor, led by Mexican-born Executive Chef Daniel Camacho, focuses on sustainability and features dishes sourced from 90% Mexican ingredients. Bambuco bar and Freddy’s Bar provide refreshing cocktails and raw bar delights, with sustainability as a core principle.
Holistic Wellness and Rituals
Maroma Spa by Guerlain, launching in November, embraces nature-focused treatments inspired by the four elements—fire, water, earth, and air—alongside the revered Melipona bee. Sound therapy, meditation, and constellation massages enhance the wellness experience. The spa also houses an apothecary where guests can learn to prepare healing therapies using locally harvested herbs.
Sustainable Commitment
Maroma’s commitment to sustainability extends to its community and environment. The hotel collaborates with Fundación Selva Maya and Mayahuum to protect the endangered Melipona bee and partners with Guerlain to introduce beekeeping initiatives into Yucatán communities. Maroma’s EarthCheck certification and conservation efforts for endemic flora and fauna demonstrate its dedication to preserving the region’s natural beauty.
Captivating Celebrations
Maroma’s indoor and outdoor event venues provide an enchanting backdrop for cinematic celebrations. With spaces such as a new palapa and elegant wooden floors, the resort offers a range of options for destination weddings, corporate retreats, and intimate gatherings. Customizable activities, private tastings, and water sports add a touch of exclusivity to each occasion.
A New Chapter of Authenticity
Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, returns as a beacon of authenticity, honoring Mayan traditions and weaving them into every aspect of the guest experience. This reborn icon redefines luxury through its design, culinary offerings, holistic wellness, and sustainable commitments, making it the heart and soul of the Riviera Maya.
