Marriott International, Inc., reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its presence in Turkey by announcing plans to add over 20 properties and close to 3,000 rooms by the end of 2025. During a recent trip to the country, Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott, emphasized the company’s ongoing growth in Turkey, which is anticipated to create numerous job opportunities, reflecting the flourishing travel and hospitality industry in the country.

With a legacy of over four decades of successful operations in Turkey, Marriott has established a solid position in this market, which remains a key element of the company’s growth strategy in Europe. Over the last five years alone, the company has nearly doubled its presence in the Turkish market, boasting a portfolio of over 50 properties and more than 8,000 rooms spread across seven cities and featuring 20 distinct brands.

“Türkiye is a sought-after destination with its rich culture and heritage, natural landscapes, breadth of travel experiences and authentic hospitality,” said Capuano. “Marriott International is proud to have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing growth and diversification of the country’s travel sector through our longstanding presence and robust growth plans in the market.”

During his tour of the country, Capuano engaged with ownership groups and developers to discuss Marriott’s ongoing expansion plans in Turkey. He also visited hotel teams, underscoring the company’s dedication to associate development and the importance of nurturing a diverse pool of leadership talent in the region. Among the initiatives is the upcoming launch of a specialized program in collaboration with a hospitality school, providing students with the opportunity to pursue studies while gaining practical training and work experience at Marriott properties in Turkey.

Marriott is also committed to fostering an inclusive culture. Last year, the company introduced its Female Leadership Initiative in Turkey, tailored to empower high-potential women leaders through a customized development program, preparing them for advancement in their careers.

Expansion Strategy Through 2025

Marriott’s expansion blueprint in the region encompasses the addition of over 20 properties by the close of 2025, spanning all brand segments: luxury, premium, select, and midscale.

In September 2023, Marriott unveiled Four Points Express by Sheraton in response to escalating consumer demand for dependable yet affordable lodging across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The brand recently inaugurated its first property, Four Points Express by Sheraton Bursa, globally. Turkey is pivotal for Four Points Express by Sheraton, with plans to introduce four more properties in Ankara, Antalya, and Istanbul, including Four Points Express by Sheraton Taksim Square, scheduled for later this year.

In the select category, Moxy Hotels is poised to make its first appearance in Turkey with scheduled launches planned for Istanbul and Izmir. AC Hotels aims to expand its footprint in the country with anticipated launches in Istanbul and Izmir. Additionally, Aloft Hotels and Residence Inn by Marriott are gearing up to introduce new properties by the end of next year.

Across the premium segment, Marriott is poised to unveil its maiden properties in Cappadocia and Usak in 2025 under the Marriott and Sheraton brands, namely Cappadocia Marriott Hotel and Sheraton Hotel & Thermal Spa Usak. Expansion plans for the next two years also encompass multiple additional openings under brands like Marriott Executive Apartments.

Following the recent inauguration of Sanasaryan Han, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Istanbul, the company aims to fortify its foothold in the luxury sector with the anticipated addition of Legacy Ottoman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Istanbul, in 2025.

Turkey currently hosts 20 brands within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, each catering to distinct traveler segments. The brands operational in Turkey span St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, The Ritz-Carlton, The Luxury Collection, EDITION, and JW Marriott in the luxury segment; Marriott Hotels, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, Renaissance Hotels, Le Méridien, Westin Hotels, Tribute Portfolio, Autograph Collection, Delta Hotels by Marriott, Marriott Executive Apartments, and Design Hotels represent the premium segment; while Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft Hotels, Residence Inn by Marriott, and AC Hotels by Marriott cater to the select service segment. Additionally, Four Points Express by Sheraton operates within the midscale segment.
