Etihad Airways has launched a new direct flight route connecting Abu Dhabi with Medina, Saudi Arabia. This marks a significant expansion for the UAE-based airline, adding another key city to its growing network in the Kingdom. The first flight, which took place earlier this week, was fully booked, reflecting the high demand for this new service. As religious, business, and leisure travelers increasingly seek convenient connections, Etihad’s new route promises to meet a growing need for accessibility to one of the most significant cities in Islam.
The launch of this route aligns with the strong demand from tourists and pilgrims. Medina is one of the holiest cities in Islam, attracting millions of visitors each year. Etihad’s introduction of direct flights to this revered destination not only serves religious tourism but also caters to business and leisure travelers looking to explore Saudi Arabia’s cultural and economic landscape. The route will play a pivotal role in facilitating travel for those seeking to visit Medina for religious purposes or to explore the city’s expanding tourism offerings.

Etihad‘s expanded presence in Saudi Arabia now includes five cities, with Medina being the latest addition. This strategic move underscores the airline’s commitment to strengthening its connections with the Kingdom, supporting its growing tourism sector. Travelers will now have more options to visit Saudi Arabia, particularly with Etihad’s regular flights from Abu Dhabi to key cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam. This service expansion aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030, aiming to increase international tourism and further diversify its economy.
The newly introduced direct flights operate five times a week, with the airline using its Airbus A321 aircraft to offer both Business and Economy cabins. Flight schedules are designed to accommodate a variety of traveler preferences, with the first flight (EY631) departing Abu Dhabi at 08:55 and arriving in Medina at 10:50. The second flight of the day (EY633) departs at 14:30, arriving in Medina at 16:25. Return flights from Medina to Abu Dhabi are scheduled for the afternoon and evening, ensuring a seamless connection.

In response to growing demand, Etihad plans to increase the frequency of flights later this year, adding a sixth weekly service to Medina. This increase will further enhance connectivity for travelers seeking to visit the Kingdom for both religious and leisure purposes.
The Medina route complements Etihad’s broader strategy to grow its network and support tourism initiatives across the Middle East and beyond. In recent months, the airline has expanded its global reach by adding 31 new destinations, including cities in Asia, Africa, and Europe. By strengthening its position in Saudi Arabia, Etihad is tapping into a key market for regional and international travelers. This expansion also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s goal of welcoming 150 million visitors by 2030, with a specific focus on religious tourism, which plays a vital role in the country’s economy.

With the launch of this route, passengers can enjoy seamless connections to Saudi Arabia, whether they are traveling for religious purposes, business, or leisure. The availability of both Business and Economy classes ensures that the airline meets the needs of a broad range of travelers, catering to those seeking both comfort and affordability.
The addition of the Medina route also reflects Etihad’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in the Middle East, making it easier for travelers to access key destinations across the region. With the airline’s expanding network and commitment to customer satisfaction, Etihad Airways continues to position itself as a leading carrier for travelers in and out of the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
