The Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) has had a stellar year, exceeding expectations with a remarkable 74% increase in economic contribution from secured business events for the fiscal year 2022/2023. This success solidifies Victoria’s position as a top global business events destination, demonstrating its economic strength.

The MCB’s strategic efforts resulted in 197 secured events worth $354 million to the state’s economy. These events will attract over 100,500 visitors, filling 196,000 room nights across
Victoria.

MCB Chief Executive Julia Swanson credited the team’s dedication and innovative strategies for the rapid recovery of Melbourne’s business events sector. She emphasized the collaborative support of the Victorian Government, Visit Victoria, the City of Melbourne, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, MCB Partners, and industry collaborators.

Key events secured, such as the World Chambers Congress 2025 and the APAC Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen Summit 2023, demonstrate Melbourne’s ability to attract impactful gatherings aligned with the state’s priorities.

Corporate meetings and incentives events generated $77 million in economic impact, with the Amway China Leadership Seminar 2025 expected to attract over 10,000 Chinese delegates. Large-scale conventions, such as the Rotary International Convention 2023, made a strong comeback, hosting 187 events and injecting $385 million into Victoria’s visitor economy. The 30th-anniversary celebration of the Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meetings Event (AIME) highlighted its enduring importance as a significant business platform, contributing to Melbourne’s global business events industry for three decades.

The MCB Board Chair, Deborah Beale AM, praised the team’s accomplishment, emphasizing Melbourne’s position as a leading global business events destination. Appointments to the board, including Ms. Natalie O’Brien and Ms. Janette Kendall, strengthen MCB’s position for future success.

As Anne Jamieson’s term on the MCB Board comes to an end, her outstanding contribution was recognized, marking a significant chapter in the organization’s rich history spanning more than five decades.
