MGTO Preparations are in progress for the “25th Anniversary Celebrations of the Establishment of the Macao SAR – Year of the Dragon 2024 Parade.”

On the 1st day of Chinese New Year, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is co-hosting the community roadshow titled “2024 Chinese New Year Activities” at the Ruins of St. Paul’s and Senado Square. This initiative aims to create joyful memories for both residents and visitors alike.

In attendance are MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, José Tavares, President of Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs of the Municipal Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man, President of Cultural Affairs Bureau, along with MGTO Deputy Directors Cheng Wai Tong and Ricky Hoi, members of the Tourism Development Committee, and other distinguished guests. They extend New Year wishes and participate in the eye-dotting ceremony for the golden dragon and dancing lions at the community roadshow at the Ruins of St. Paul’s.

The “2024 Chinese New Year Activities” is recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as part of the “Happy Chinese New Year” celebrations. A 238-meter-long golden dragon and 18 dancing lions, accompanied by various traditional figures such as the God of Fortune, the three Gods of Happiness, Prosperity, and Longevity, Entourage Boy and Girl, the Chinese Zodiac Mascot of the Dragon, and Macao Tourism Mascot MAK MAK, distribute golden ingots to attendees. The festivities continue with a procession to Senado Square, where firecrackers are lit to herald the New Year, marking the start of the two-day community roadshow.

The Golden Dragon Parade showcases vitality as it traverses several key locations including Calçada do Tronco Velho, St. Augustine’s Square, Rua Central, and more, greeting residents and visitors along the way, spreading good wishes.

The “2024 Chinese New Year Activities” spreads festive cheer across various communities in Macao Peninsula and the Islands over the 1st and 2nd days of Chinese New Year. Different art troupes from near and far present captivating performances to celebrate the occasion.

The festivities continue tomorrow, on the 2nd day of Chinese New Year, at various locations including Anim’Arte NAM VAN, Macao Grand Prix Museum, Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, and more. Residents and visitors are invited to partake in the celebrations and create lasting memories.

Following the community roadshows, more exciting events await during the “Celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR – Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Dragon 2024.” Floats and fireworks displays will take center stage, offering a vibrant fusion of tourism and celebration. Three sessions of Chinese New Year Fireworks Displays will illuminate the skies above the sea near Macau Tower, themed around “Dragon,” “Renri,” and “Lantern Festival” celebrations, respectively, conveying heartfelt wishes to all.
