Miami Joins West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale in Archer Aviation’s Zero-Emission Air Taxi Network Across South Florida, Here is All You Need to Know

Published on December 3, 2025

A major expansion of the urban air mobility network has been announced by Archer Aviation, marking a significant milestone for sustainable travel across South Florida. The company’s electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Midnight, will soon link Miami, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale in a zero-emission air taxi service designed for short‑haul commutes and intercity travel.

Archer Aviation Expands Air Taxi Network Across South Florida

The planned network is designed to serve major population and business centers across South Florida, including coastal and inland cities. Air taxi infrastructure is slated for installation at Miami International Airport (KMIA), Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (KFLL) and Palm Beach International Airport (KPBI). In addition, smaller regional airports and heliports — including Miami Executive (KTMB), Miami Opa-Locka Executive (KOPF), Fort Lauderdale Executive (KFXE), Boca Raton (KBCT) and Witham Field (KSUA) — have been identified as launch points, effectively connecting all the principal urban hubs in South Florida.

In Miami, preparations will be made to adapt existing heliports for Midnight operations in collaboration with Related Ross, the development firm owned by Stephen Ross, principal owner of Hard Rock Stadium. The partnership will enable seamless connectivity to major sports and entertainment venues, including those hosting events by local professional teams and international sports competitions. A vertiport is also planned at Related Ross’s mixed-use development in downtown West Palm Beach, tying together city centers and residential zones. Meanwhile, a dedicated vertiport is being planned within the 18-acre Magic City Innovation District in Miami’s Little Haiti neighbourhood.

Midnight eVTOL: Revolutionizing Travel in South Florida

Midnight, the flagship aircraft of Archer Aviation, has been engineered to carry one pilot and up to four passengers. The electric air taxi is optimized for rapid, frequent service: typical flights are projected to range between 20 and 50 miles, with cruise speeds of around 150 mph and estimated flight times of 10 to 20 minutes. The propulsion system relies on six electric battery packs powering dual-engine propeller sets — with half configured for vertical takeoff and landing and the other half for forward cruise. The design is promoted as being significantly quieter than conventional helicopters, a factor that is expected to ease integration into urban and suburban environments across South Florida.

The charging infrastructure needed to support this network will be provided under agreements previously secured by Archer Aviation with aviation service operators Atlantic Aviation and Signature Aviation. Electric aircraft chargers acquired from industry peers will be installed at the relevant FBO terminals across South Florida. This network of chargers is central to the company’s vision of a reliable, zero-emission transport system connecting multiple urban centres.

Transforming South Florida’s Transportation Landscape

The introduction of the air taxi network is positioned as a transformative step for urban mobility in South Florida, where growing populations and traffic congestion have placed pressure on existing transportation infrastructure. By offering an alternative mode of transit between Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, Archer Aviation aims to connect residential zones, business districts and leisure destinations with unprecedented speed and convenience. The accessibility to airports, heliports and new vertiports means that door-to-door travel times across major parts of South Florida could be dramatically reduced.

The vision for the South Florida network is part of a broader expansion plan that draws on earlier initiatives by Archer Aviation in other major U.S. cities. However, this foray into South Florida is being closely watched due to the region’s unique mix of concentrated urban corridors, coastal tourism zones and transportation challenges. Providing reliable, environmentally friendly air taxi service across Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach could reshape commuting patterns and open new possibilities for regional connectivity.

Critically, no speculative projections about ridership, market demand or regulatory timelines are included in the official release. All information is grounded in confirmed infrastructure plans, aircraft capabilities and the cities selected for inclusion in the network. As of now, the schedule and date for the commencement of commercial flights have not been announced.

Nevertheless, the strategic deployment of vertiports, chargers and aircraft positions Archer Aviation to deliver a practical, zero-emission air taxi solution for South Florida. If executed as planned, the network linking Miami, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale could usher in a new era of regional travel — one where traffic congestion and long commute times are replaced by swift, quiet flights across South Florida’s urban landscape.
