Minister confirms, Iran domestic tourism raises 15 percent

Ezzatollah Zarghami, the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Minister of Iran, said that in 2023, the number of travels from domestic tourists increased almost 15 percent for Noruz holidays which starts from March 16th and continues till April 4th. A total of 50 million overnight stays were registered for Noruz holidays. This year, this particular index reached 57.1%. This comprises official along with unofficial and emergency stays as well.


Zarghami stated that 57.1 million overnight stays for the period of the holidays have been noted as the number of stays has reached around 50 million for the Iranian holidays a year earlier. Though, the official did not give exact data for domestic travelers.


Gilan and Khorasan Razavi, Mazandaran, Hormozgan and Khuzestan in 2023 attracted the highest numbers of travelers, Zarghami mentioned.


The minister also added that during Noruz holidays in 2023, they had reached a record of six million visits to all the museums and cultural sites, and fetched almost 31 billion tomans of tourism revenues.


Somewhere else in his comments, Zarghami also mentioned that his ministry adheres to plans to formulate travel packages for people group belonging to the low-income group. When it comes to travel, they should have hassle-free entrance and that is a priority for the ministry.


Stylish hotels and resort centers had a very good possession rate at the time of Noruz holidays.
