Minister positive about tourism development in spite of recession

Sandiaga Uno, the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister of Indonesia, is quite hopeful in terms of the tourism industry of the country recording constant development in spite of the possible slump and financial hold ups in 2023 by giving more importance to human resource development through investment in education.

On Thursday, Uno said that at two new locations, Greater Solo and Manado, tourism polytechnic will be added. Besides, they need to put more into the micro, small, and medium enterprises sector and tourism villages, he said. While mentioning the challenges of a financial slump, the ministry said that there will be constant initiation to make efforts to put into practice programs that can reach MSME players. Those programs comprise digital transformation through the Proud of Indonesian Products National Movement and developing the buying power of the community via capital, training, mentoring, and marketing programs.


In addition, Uno has designed to arrange meeting with Airlangga Hartarto, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, to assist the MSMEs by offering extra working capital, so that they carry on to generate 97 percent of the jobs with a mission to maintain the purchasing power of the people.

He said that he sees the danger of recession that has been expressed many times by the finance minister and also the viewpoint that they have received from many institutions, study, and reports from economists that there will be a hold up and there is a possibility of entering a recession zone.
