Misamis Oriental, Philippines Eyes Unprecedented Prosperity With Laguindingan Airport Modernization Opening Doors To Global Tourism And Explosive Economic Growth

Misamis Oriental, Philippines is set to boost tourism and economic growth with the groundbreaking Laguindingan Airport expansion, creating job opportunities and global connections.

Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia expressed optimism about the potential of the partnership between the provincial government and Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) to expand Laguindingan Airport, believing it will significantly boost tourism in both Misamis Oriental and northern Mindanao.

Governor Unabia highlighted tourism as a key driver for economic development in the province. He noted that an increase in tourism activity would create more job opportunities and stimulate growth in various sectors such as transportation, local handicrafts, souvenirs, and tour guiding.

The P12.75-billion concession agreement for Laguindingan International Airport’s expansion and modernization is seen as vital for strengthening the collaboration between the provincial government and the private sector. The expansion is expected to pave the way for international flights starting next year. AIC will oversee the airport under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement with the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.

In addition, the province is developing tourism loops that include popular spots like Sipaka Point paragliding in Talisayan, Agutayan White Island in Jasaan, the Flight 387 Shrine in Gingoog City, Aya-aya Falls located in Lugait and the Tugasnon Hot Springs in Alubijid are two stunning natural attractions in Misamis Oriental.
