The Choctaw Resort Development Enterprise (CRDE), under the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians’ ownership, is delighted to reveal the chosen name for its new travel plaza: “Crystal Sky.” This name is inspired by the nearby Tribal community in Winston County, known as Crystal Ridge, which shares a part of its name with the plaza. The initiative is set to become a landmark of hospitality, offering convenience and a celebration of cultural heritage to those traveling through the Louisville area. In a groundbreaking ceremony held in April 2023, Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben announced a creative contest inviting Tribal members to propose names for the plaza that would resonate with the community’s spirit and the scenic beauty of the area. The contest saw an enthusiastic response, with 258 entries submitted. Following thorough deliberation and multiple voting rounds, “Crystal Sky” was chosen as the winning name through a collaborative effort by the Tribal Council and the CRDE Board.

“As we unveil the name of our Travel Plaza, I am filled with gratitude,” said Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben. “This endeavor isn’t just about bricks and mortar; it’s about weaving connections. Crystal Sky will not only serve travelers passing through but will also uplift the Louisville/Winston County area and honor the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.”

Our heartfelt congratulations go to Dachelle E. from Louisville, MS, whose suggestion perfectly captured the plaza’s intended essence and vision. In appreciation of her innovative contribution, Dachelle will be awarded a $500 cash prize.
