Montréal-Trudeau Airport Selects Taxelco to Lead Taxi Operations in Groundbreaking New Deal

Published on April 1, 2025

Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) has announced that after a comprehensive and competitive bidding process, it has awarded Taxelco the contract to manage taxi services at YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport. Taxelco will officially begin operating at the airport on May 1, 2025.

This shift comes as part of ADM’s strategic overhaul to modernize taxi management at YUL. As the airport prepares for significant infrastructure upgrades—particularly reconfiguring its road network and planning for future expansion—the airport has decided to replace the previous lottery system for 400 independent taxi drivers with a streamlined, single-operator model. This new approach is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, improving service quality, and offering a more organized experience for passengers.

The decision to select Taxelco followed a rigorous tender process where companies from the Greater Montréal area were invited to submit proposals. ADM ensured fairness throughout the process by appointing an ethics officer to oversee the proceedings from the start.

After carefully reviewing all proposals using a detailed evaluation matrix, the selection committee, made up of professionals from various ADM departments, chose Taxelco. The company stood out not only for its experience in the industry but also for its forward-thinking and safety-oriented service proposals.

Under the terms of the contract, Taxelco will operate a fleet of at least 400 registered vehicles, including a substantial number of zero-emission cars, and will employ enough staff and drivers to meet passenger demand. The company will also be tasked with enhancing the airport’s pick-up system by implementing a virtual waiting queue that promises to smooth out the process and minimize wait times, especially during quieter periods.

The improvements are particularly crucial considering the large-scale construction projects underway at YUL, which are expected to continue until 2028 and beyond. The new system will offer several benefits, including real-time tracking of taxi operations, expedited service for travelers, and the ability for drivers to manage other fares during off-peak times while maintaining their priority status in the queue.

ADM will soon announce a detailed roll-out plan to ensure a seamless transition for passengers and stakeholders. This innovative model, already successfully implemented at major airports worldwide, is set to elevate the taxi service experience at YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.
