Businesses are being requested to know more in terms of how a new way of investing in Moray tourism could efficiently uphold the region on a global level by more than doubling available funds.

Moray Speyside Tourism (MST), the destination marketing organization of the region, formally launched a campaign in May to get businesses behind a Tourism Business Improvement District (TBid) funding model.

Under the scheme, local tourism-related businesses would compensate a tax on a yearly basis. This would be based on the rateable value of their business premises. Members would then have the authority to decide how the money should be invested and the direction of focus to put Moray on the world destination map – with no need to rely on public funding.

Currently, MST is inviting businesses to take part in engagement events in July, an opportunity, it says, to discover how the TBid can protect the future of Moray Speyside as a world-class tourism destination. Business owners will succeed in giving their views in terms of priorities for the TBid business plan, which will be put to a vote this summer.
The free events are released to all tourism businesses but are mainly targeted at tourism operators, along with accommodation providers, activity operators, visitor centres and distilleries, who are registered as businesses within the Moray Council area and who have a rateable value of £2000 or more.

The events will take place at the Eight Acres Hotel, Elgin, Monday, July 15 at 2pm; Strathisla Distillery, Keith, Tuesday, July 16 at 2pm; Stotfield Hotel, Lossiemouth, Wednesday, July 17 at 5pm; Forres Town Hall, Thursday, July 18 at 2pm; Ramnee Hotel, Forres, Thursday, July 18 at 5pm; Ballindalloch Distillery, Monday, July 22 at 2pm; Baxters Highland Village, Fochabers, Tuesday, July 23 at 2pm and 5pm; Fleming Hall, Aberlour, Wednesday, July 24 at 2pm; Richmond Memorial Hall, Tomintoul, Wednesday, July 24 at 7pm; Seafield Arms, Cullen, Thursday, July 25 at 2pm; Grant Arms Hotel, Grantown-on-Spey, Friday, July 26 at 2pm.
