In October 2025, Morocco’s tourism sector reached a milestone, setting a historic record in travel revenues. The country generated MAD 113.26 billion (approximately $11.3 billion) in tourism income in the first ten months of the year, surpassing its entire 2024 tourism earnings, which amounted to MAD 112.5 billion ($11.25 billion). This represents a remarkable 16.7% increase year-on-year, compared to MAD 97.04 billion ($9.7 billion) recorded in the same period of 2024.
According to the latest report from the Office of Foreign Exchange, tourism expenditures saw an 11.5% rise, reaching MAD 27.54 billion ($2.75 billion). This surge has contributed to an improved travel balance surplus of MAD 85.71 billion ($8.57 billion), an 18.5% increase compared to the previous year.

In addition to increased revenues, Morocco welcomed 16.6 million visitors over the first ten months of 2025, marking a 14% growth in tourist arrivals from the previous year. As a result, the country has secured its place among the world’s top 20 most dynamic tourism destinations, ranking 13th globally, according to UN Tourism’s rankings.
The rapid growth in Morocco’s tourism sector is reflected in the country’s accommodation capacity, which has been significantly expanded. Since 2023, Morocco has added 43,000 new hotel beds to accommodate the increasing demand for lodging. This growth supports the expansion of the country’s hospitality industry, ensuring that Morocco can keep pace with the influx of visitors.

To put this performance into context, 2024 was a record-breaking year for Morocco’s tourism, as the country generated MAD 112.5 billion ($11.25 billion) in travel revenues, up by 7.5% from 2023’s earnings of MAD 104.7 billion ($10.47 billion). That year, tourism expenditures increased by 22.9%, reaching MAD 29.4 billion ($2.94 billion), while the country maintained a positive travel balance of MAD 83.1 billion ($8.31 billion).
The success of Morocco’s tourism sector is not just attributed to traditional attractions like Marrakech, Fez, and the Sahara Desert tours. The country’s tourism strategy is evolving to focus on repositioning Morocco as a strategic hub at the intersection of Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic. This effort aims to transform Morocco into a diverse, year-round destination that attracts tourists seeking a variety of experiences beyond the classic holiday.

A key part of this vision is Morocco’s aim to become a leader in cultural and event tourism. For example, in October 2025, the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) launched a large-scale promotional campaign called “Morocco, Land of Football.” The campaign, which features national football stars, aims to capitalize on the country’s involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The ONMT has been conducting promotional tours across Europe, particularly targeting African diaspora communities, and developing specialized AFCON travel packages with African tour operators.
Morocco’s tourism ambitions extend beyond traditional offerings. The government is investing in new projects, including in regions like Dakhla and Laayoune, and along the Atlantic coast, where a variety of tourism initiatives are underway. The focus is on creating a more diversified tourism ecosystem that includes luxury travel, nature and adventure tourism, cultural and religious heritage routes, digital nomadism, and major international events like the World Cup in 2030 and various conferences and festivals.
Tourism in Morocco is increasingly viewed not only as an economic sector but as a platform that ties together infrastructure development, aviation, renewable energy, culture, and territorial development. Morocco’s policymakers are working to position the country as a modern, stable, and future-oriented destination in a geopolitically complex region.
The country is also grappling with the question of identity in its tourism strategy. How does Morocco want the world to perceive it? The answer seems to be a Morocco that is proudly African yet Mediterranean, deeply rooted in history while embracing global modernity. The vision includes a blend of reinvented historical medinas, high-speed trains, modern port megaprojects, and Atlantic resorts, all presenting Morocco as a place that is open to the world, stable in a volatile region, and moving forward toward a prosperous future.
However, as Morocco’s tourism industry continues to thrive, the country faces the challenge of ensuring that development remains socially inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and geopolitically strategic. The ultimate goal is not just to hit tourism targets but to build a tourism sector that contributes to long-term national development, turning visitors into participants in the broader story of Morocco’s growth.
This vision reflects Morocco’s ambition to become a dynamic, diversified tourism destination, offering both traditional and modern experiences, while positioning itself as a key player on the global stage. With ongoing investments in infrastructure, promotion, and strategic planning, Morocco is well on its way to cementing its place as a global tourism leader for years to come.
