As Morocco prepares to host the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, the country has introduced temporary measures to streamline entry and ensure safe travel for the large influx of visitors expected during the tournament. One of the most notable changes is the extension of the Electronic Travel Authorization (AEVM) system to citizens of eight additional African countries: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gabon, Niger, Senegal, Togo, and Tunisia. This move is aimed at simplifying entry procedures for visitors coming to support their teams and experience the excitement of AFCON.
The AEVM system, already available to citizens of several visa-exempt countries, will be in place from September 25, 2025, through January 25, 2026, allowing visitors to easily apply for entry permits. This initiative seeks to enhance travel efficiency while ensuring smooth entry for both football fans and tourists visiting Morocco.

Moroccan authorities have outlined two separate application procedures for travelers, depending on the purpose of their visit. Supporters holding tickets to AFCON matches will need to use the newly launched mobile app. Developed in partnership between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Morocco’s Local Organizing Committee (LOC), this app will act as both a Fan ID and a simplified electronic visa, consolidating entry authorization and spectator identification into one convenient platform.
Tourists, business visitors, and those coming for family reasons will need to apply for their AEVM through the official portal, acces-maroc.ma. This is the same platform currently used for Morocco’s regular electronic visa (e-Visa). It is essential for these travelers to submit their applications at least 96 hours before departure to ensure the timely processing of their AEVM.

The AEVM extension is strictly a temporary measure that will end on January 25, 2026, shortly after the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations. Authorities have emphasized that travelers will need to present their AEVM at both departure checks and upon arrival in Morocco. This policy will be strictly enforced by Moroccan authorities and airlines, including Royal Air Maroc.
Royal Air Maroc has urged all passengers to plan ahead, ensuring they obtain the necessary AEVM before departure. The airline has highlighted that any passengers who fail to meet this requirement may be denied boarding, adding that the process is in place to maintain smooth and secure travel for all visitors during the high-traffic period surrounding the tournament.

This temporary change is also expected to provide a significant boost to Morocco’s travel and tourism sector. With the country welcoming thousands of international visitors for the tournament, the AEVM system will help manage the flow of travelers while maintaining security. Tourists will benefit from simplified entry procedures, leading to fewer delays and smoother transitions through the country’s airports.
Beyond AFCON, Morocco’s ability to quickly adapt and introduce efficient entry systems will enhance its reputation as a key destination for international travel. The country’s tourism industry, already growing in popularity, will see long-term benefits as Morocco continues to position itself as a leading cultural and sports tourism hub in Africa and beyond.
With the successful implementation of the AEVM system, Morocco is laying the foundation for future tourism and international events. The positive impact of this system on the travel experience for AFCON visitors will likely encourage further developments in Morocco’s tourism infrastructure. With enhanced connectivity, smooth entry procedures, and a welcoming environment, Morocco is poised to remain a top destination for travelers from across the globe.
Sports tourism has become a significant global trend, with travelers seeking to engage in or attend sporting events as part of their travel experiences. This type of tourism not only brings visitors to popular sporting destinations but also boosts local economies by driving demand for hotels, transportation, and local services. For anyone planning to visit during AFCON or beyond, it’s recommended to apply for your AEVM ahead of time to ensure a seamless and enjoyable trip to Morocco.
